Dear Parents:
Below I have listed some activities that can be done at home to supplement what we do in the classroom. While some of these tasks are self-explanatory, under some of the activities I have listed easy ways to complete these goals at home. Any extra practice you could give your child at home will be very helpful. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! Thanks for everything that you do!
General Knowledge:
practice birthday, phone
number, address, days of the week and months of the year
sing calendar songs
talk in the car
write first and last name correctly with upper and lowercase letters
practice cutting,
pasting, and tracing
draw and trace hands and feet and cut them out
make holiday decorations
Reading Skills:
recognize and write
upper and lowercase letters
make a memory game with index cards and letters
use labels to help kids recognize letters
sing the ABC song
identify and make
letter sounds
help kids sound words out with letter sounds
listen and predict
about stories
at the end of a page, ask what will happen next?
retell stories in the right order
read with your child
visit the library
ask your child about their favorite part of stories you read
ask if the story is real or pretend, and why they think so
Math Skills:
recognize numbers
0-30
keep a calendar handy
count by 10’s
make snacks: then count 100 pieces of cereal or raisins
group objects into
sets
sort objects in the house by color, shape, or size
identify more, less and equal
identify coins
let the kids count your change at the end of the day
identify first,
second, third, etc.
make number cards for kids to put in the right order
identify shapes
(circles, triangles, squares and rectangles)
find shapes in the house or while driving
