Notes to Parents

Help your child become a great reader. Here are some suggestions that will help you.

1.  Read to your child everyday.

2.  Choose stories that rhyme and have repetitive sentences.  Young children really enjoy this.  If you need some book suggestions, do not hesitate to call or e-mail us.

3.  Children have favorite books.  It is fine if they ask you to read the same book over and over again.  You might get tired of the story, but they love the repetition.

4.  Have fun reading to your child!  Use different voices for the characters in the story and change tone of voice throughout the story.  Be dramatic!

5.  Read to your child before bedtime using a soft voice.  It is soothing and a nice way for your child to end his or her day.

6.  Start a sentence in the story and let your child finish it.

7.  Let your child read the book to you.  Your child can retell the story by looking at the pictures.  Try not to correct your child while they are retelling you the story.

8.  Get a library card for your child in his or her name.  Let your child choose his or her own books for you to read.

9.  And finally, never underestimate the importance of reading to your child to help him or her develop a lifelong love of reading!
