What is kindergarten?

The K-1 classroom consists of students between the ages of 5-7 years. We have a full time teacher and teaching assistant in the classroom. Students also benefit from the experience of  Occupational Therapy, Health and Physical Education, Speech and Language therapy, Technology, and Social Skills groups. Our classroom is a therapeutic environment that accommodates students who need extra time to work on reading readiness, motor skills, information processing and social skills.

Our classroom curriculum is based on the Rhode Island Standards for kindergarten and first grade. The curriculum is designed to integrate all content areas including reading, writing, math, social studies, and science while meeting the individual needs of each student. We encourage problem solving and positive peer interactions in and out of the classroom setting.

Being part of the community is another facet to our classroom program. Field trips are incorporated into our monthly themes and are designed to expand a child’s understanding of the community and world around them. Monthly school wide gatherings are planned throughout the year to further prompt a sense of community throughout the school.
