The K-1 curriculum addresses the Rhode
Island Standards for kindergarten and first grade. The curriculum is
designed to meet each students individual needs. We address all content
areas including reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. We also
focus on listening skills and speaking skills. Monthly themes and daily
lessons plans are designed to broaden students learning experiences.
Our day begins with greetings and morning routines. Students follow a daily
five step routine then sit down independently to complete a morning work
assignment. When morning work is complete students earn a fifteen minute
free time, during which they can use the writing center or construction
center. When circle time begins students sit on name tags and participate by
raising there hands and respectfully contributing to the group. After circle
the K-1 class has Yoga time followed by snack time. Next, students
participate in theme related group activities. Provided there work is
completed students will earn playtime at the end of the morning activities.
After lunch, students participate in specials such as computer or library.
Next, students will join in a group Language Arts activity followed by
center time. Students then complete their afternoon routines and prepare for
the transition home. At the end of the day, based on behaviors and
participation, students can earn an afternoon playtime.
