Happy Faces and Stars
Students can earn up to three stars per each daily activity. Students earn
stars for being kind and respectful, following directions, and remaining
safe and calm in the classroom. Students who earn 80% of their stars will
receive a happy face to be added to a weekly chart. Happy faces are given at
the end of the morning activities and after centers at the end of the day,
if a student earns their happy face (80% of their stars) then the student
has earned their playtime. During each happy face time the teacher reviews
the star sheets with each student to recap their day as well as give them a
sense of responsibility for their behaviors.
Breaks
Each student is given the opportunity for breaks to help them calm their
bodies and learn self regulation skills. Students are allowed up to three,
three-minute breaks. Students may choose between a sensory break, taking
space, or using the peace basket in the classroom or out in the hallway.
Breaks are monitored by the teacher.
Big Toy
If a student earns eight out of a possible ten happy faces for the week,
then the student may choose a big toy at the end of the week. Big toys
signify a week long effort to work on behavior goals and self regulation.
Each week students start with zero happy faces and must earn at least
eight happy faces to earn their big toy.
