NOTES TO PARENTS

HOMEWORK

Students have homework every night, Monday-Thursday. Their spelling homework follows the same schedule each week.

HOMEWORK SCHEDULE

Monday: Write spelling words five times each.
Tuesday: Write spelling words in alphabetical order three times each.
Wednesday: Write sentences using spelling words #1-5.
Thursday: Write sentences using spelling words #6-10, and study words for the test of spelling bee on Friday.

THIS SCHEDULE WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED WITH WORK IN OTHER SUBJECT AREAS AS NEEDED.

PARENT TIP

It would be beneficial to your child if you could help them practice their spelling words as often as possible. Turning this practice into games will make this more fun!  Rainbow Writing is when the student will write a word once, and then have them use the colors of the rainbow to write over each letter, saying the word in their head each time they rewrite it. Using flashcards, snapping and clapping the words, or making up songs are other ways to help your child learn the spelling of each word.

Having your child read for pleasure for 15 minutes every night, or reading a book to your child, is also another great way to improve reading skills and interests in different subject areas. This simple task helps to gain confidence in reading and increase participation in the classroom.

Parents are the most important part of each child’s education. Working with your child demonstrates that school and homework are important. Encouragement shows how supportive you are.
